Hey everyone! Yeah, I know, it’s been actually 3 days since we’ve been here and I’m finally blogging. Let me explain why. We came in on July 1st and immediately got on a bus from London Heathrow Airport to travel here to Birmingham. It was a short 2 hour bus ride through the countryside of England. It was actually quite nice :). Once we arrived here we checked into our hotel and showered (which was much needed after a long flight like that) and ate a little lunch. We also found out that we would have to pay a small fortune to get on internet each day we are here. So, blogging may be a little harder than I initially expected.
We are staying at Jurys Inn here in Birmingham and have been told that this area is kind of like the “sin city” area for this region (which, I guess explains the Gentlemen’s Club located directly next door to the hotel, haha). We are on a fairly busy street full of shops, restaurants, bars/clubs and canals. It’s actually a very nice area, very clean and everyone is very friendly (or maybe they’re just drunk?). The hotel is nice and all of our meals are eaten here. They have a rather big selection, but as you probably know, this area is not exactly known for their cuisine…I’ve been eating a lot of pasta. Good thing I brought my peanut butter :).
Almost as soon as we checked in to the hotel, we found out we had a game the next day. SUPRISE!! With no practice whatsoever, yesterday was our first “friendly” game against Japan. It was a tight game, with Japan up at half by 3 points. But team USA persevered and pulled out the win, 59-51. Today was our second game and we played Great Britain. Again we came out a little sluggish and our shots were a bit off, but we found our shots in the second half and picked up the defense to beat GB, 64-45. We have also been having an afternoon practice and video sessions each day to tried to shake some of the jet lag from the time change.
Last night we found some free internet at a nearby courtyard surrounded by cafes and restaurants. People watching there was interesting to say the least. I am going to try to post some pictures, but as of right now I can’t make any promises. And I will try to post updates as much as I can. Tomorrow is the last day of our friendly tournament, we have 2 games vs Japan and GB. The World Championships games start on July 8th with opening ceremonies on the 7th. I hope you all have a great 4th of July… oh yeah and Happy Birthday Dad!!!
