Winner, Winner AND a Chicken Dinner...

Today was the last day of our mini-pre worlds-friendly tournament. We played two games today and won both games. This morning we played Japan and won by 11 points (I don’t exactly remember the exact score, sorry!). Team USA played a great game and showed much improvement from the prior games played. Japan is a very fast and fundamental team with some great shooters. Our team really seemed to come together during this game and the momentum carried over into our second game against Great Britain. The final score of that game was 66-34. I think in this game we really showed what we are capable of doing. Our focus of the game was just to go out there and play ball, instead of over-thinking things like it seemed we were doing. Kudos to our coaching staff for making this call. Everyone got good minutes in this game and everything finally seemed to be clicking. It was truly a great way for us to end this tourney and go into the main event.

We also got a sneak peak of the main venue today. Up til now, we have been playing in the actual building where the championships will be, but have been downstairs on the practice courts. The courts are ok, I would say. But not the best I’ve ever played on. One of the baskets also make it a bit hard to shoot freethrows on. There is a light from the other court that shines through right at the top of the square on the backboard and is just a tiny bit distracting. However today we saw that main court and it looks amazing! Of course they are still setting up and making final preparations, so it was only a glimpse. But the arena is huge and there will be two courts set up. I will be sure to take pictures of it.

So now we have no games until the 8th now, opening ceremonies are on the 7th. Tonight we are taking it easy and will have a practice tomorrow. I’m pretty excited to sleep in tomorrow, not gonna lie. Although sleeping hasn’t been too bad so far. I’ve only had one night where I woke up at about 2 am and was awake till about 5 am. Otherwise, we have really comfortable beds so no other issues here. Oh and I also can’t wait to have a cup of coffee in the morning! The last few days Steph and I have been enjoying only afternoon coffee to avoid napping and furthering this whole jet lag thing. Tomorrow will be a good change of pace for sure.

Alright well I guess that’s all for now. Go USA!!

P.S. We actually did have chicken for dinner… first form of protein I’ve had since we’ve been here and it was delicious… or maybe I was just really hungry? :)
