Whoa! Is it just me or is this year just flying by? I really can't believe that tomorrow I will be in England... and that I have to work today :) It's weird for me to think about what a whirlwind this experience is turning out to be. We really haven't been together for THAT long. But back in April when we named our team I thought that this day would never come. And here we are...
So let's talk about a stress filled week I've had. I had to get completely packed (along with an extra equipment bag with spare wheels, axles, tubes and tools) and packing is so stressful for me! This may be due to the fact that I am a huge procrastinator and probably could have started way earlier than I did, but I like to think that I was just too busy to start earlier :). On top of this, I am always worried that I'm forgetting something. But I am sure that have the essentials: my passport, my jersey and my peanut butter so basically anything else I just really don't need, right? Oh and I can't forget my water bottle for hydration :), see I almost forgot that! Thank goodness for lists and an awesome co-captain/roommate to coordinate packing lists with.
Also this week, on a personal note, I had to bid my little brother Erik farewell as he makes his way to Afghanistan for a 12 month tour with the Army. That happened on Monday and was a pretty emotionally draining day for me. Please keep him and my family in your thoughts and prayers. I know he'll come home safe.
Needless to say, this has pretty much been a huge rollercoaster ride for me in terms of emotions. I'm glad I've managed to get everthing back in check. Yesterday was the final workout before the trip and we did a lot of focus on shooting, shooting, shooting. Especially freethrows, 3 balls and full court layups. I felt great about how it went. Actually a good work out always seems to get me back into the right frame of mind. And now, today, I am so anxious to get home and get to the airport!
It's going to be a great tournament and we have some stiff competition. I can't wait to show the world what we're made of!! Thank you all for your support and encouragement througout this whole thing, you're the best!!!
