Hello friends and family… See I told you that I was going to “try” to stay up to date on the blog. Key word: try. Hopefully you have been checking in on the websites posted here and watching some live streams from our games. If not, we just finished up day 2 of the tourney and the US is 2-0! We played Japan yesterday and pulled out a 21 point victory. We were a little rusty and it may not have been our best game, but we did get the “W”. And our team is great at learning from things and moving on. Today we went up against Brazil and went away with a 40+ point victory. Everyone got a chance to play and contribute in this game.
Tonight we had a shoot around and will play at 4:30 pm tomorrow. We see China tomorrow. It should be a good game for us. China is looking stronger than they did 2 years ago in Beijing. It’s awesome to see the progress they’ve made since the Paralympics were the first time China had a women’s wheelchair basketball team. We definitely can’t take any team lightly; this is the world championships after all and I am positive that team USA is not the only team with a goal of winning the gold.
There is a lot of good competition going on here and I am very thankful we are so close to the gym so I can witness what’s been going on. In the past, usually you have to get on a bus to get to the gym and we are very lucky that it’s a quick walk over there this year. The women’s tournament has seen some great games. And the men’s side has been pretty intense as well. If you’re interested, our men are also 2-0 at this point with victories over Korea and Poland.
Off the court, my roommate and I have been exploring our dining options in the area we are in. The food has been sub-par compared to what we are used to in the states. It’s not that it’s terrible, but one can only eat baked potatoes and chicken with mystery sauce for so long before they break! Last night we found this nice little café called Slug and Lettuce. Don’t be fooled by the name, it was awesome. I enjoyed some chicken and mushroom risotto and I have to say it was probably the first time I have been full since I got here. There are actually a lot of little cafes around the area so we are making sure that we experience this to the fullest. I really don’t know what took us so long…
Well, I am off for now. Hope all is going well with all of you. Make sure you’re checking out the pages on this. …and GO USA!!!
